Huawei to Undertake AXIS's Pan-Indonesia Mobile Network Deployment

China's Huawei has been chosen by Indonesian GSM and 3G mobile operator AXIS to deploy a nationwide mobile network in Indonesia, according to a press release by Huawei. AXIS is a joint venture between Saudi Telecom Company of Saudi Arabia and Maxis Communications of Malyasia.

As per the contract, over the next three years Huawei will deliver its single RAN (Radio Access Network) solution and unified fourth-generation BTS (Base Transceiver Station) platform to design, build, deploy, and manage AXIS's pan-Indonesia GSM and 3G network. This network is projected to comprise about 4,000 sites across Indonesia, covering the islands of Java, Bali, Lombok, Kalimantan, and Sulawesi will be within the coverage of this network.
